Retired as Group Finance Director of Halifax Group plc in December 2001, a position held since 1995. Previously Finance Director of the Leeds Permanent Building Society for five years prior to its merger with the Halifax following a number of senior finance positions in the industrial sector. A Non-Executive Director of Expro International Group PLC and Chairman of Northern Foods Trustees Limited.

Previously held senior finance positions within Northern Foods and United Biscuits. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 whilst with Coopers & Lybrand.

Joined Bristol Corporation in 1978. Previous career experience in management consultancy, finance and the law. Joined Heywood Williams on the acquisition of Bristol Corporation in 1994. He was appointed a Board Director in 1996 with responsibility for the US operations.

Appointed a Non-Executive Director on 4 July 2007 following his retirement as a senior partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers ("PwC"). He joined PwC in 1974 and during his career was primarily involved providing audit, accounting and financial advisory services to clients with both UK and overseas operations. Latterly he was a member of the management team of the Northern Assurance practice. He is a trustee of the Leeds Community Foundation.
